Are Boosted Posts On Facebook A Waste of Money?
Have you trialled paid Facebook Advertising in the past for your business, and generated next to no result?
If so, you’re not alone. In fact the majority of the small business owners we consult with have “boosted their posts” once or twice using the boost post button in the hopes that it will live up to Facebooks promise of reaching more people, and generating you more leads and sales.
However the reality is, in 90% of cases, it doesn’t do anything…
Watch our video below for a better understanding, and learn what you should be doing instead to generate a meaningful return for your business.
So, are boosted posts on facebook a waste of money? Well, yes and no. In our opinion boosted posts are a waste of money in most cases if your are looking to generated leads or sales as a direct result of the boosted post. And the reason for this is the simplified control options a boosted post offers you.
You see, boosting a post is kind of like Facebooks way of making advertising on their platform that easy, anyone can do it in under 5 clicks. And this is true, in that you can boost a post and run an ad for your business in under 5 clicks, but’s it’s pretty likely it is going to perform like Meatloaf at the AFL Grand Final, poorly.
The more people boost posts on Facebook, ultimately the more Facebook earns, so of course they are going to continually recommend you to boost your posts.
This issue with using this boost feature, is that Facebook makes it very difficult to actually target the correct audience, such as proximity to your business, audience interests, audience affiliation to your page/website just to name a few. And to follow that up, in the majority of cases we see, business owners are paying to boost a post which has no call to action in the text. Meaning the paid promotion isn’t actually telling the viewers to do anything, it’s just simply showing a picture of your services.
So what’s the resolution to this money wasting problem?
The true answer is to ensure that you are following these key steps when advertising on Facebook.
Always run your ads from Facebooks Ads Manager.
Always select an objective campaign, such as ‘lead forms’, ‘messages’, or ‘conversions’.
Ensure your location targeting is capped to your serviceable area, and those which live within it.
Test audience variations of interest, lookalikes and retargeting.
Test ad variations with calls to action in the text.
As long as you follow this basic framework above, you can ensure that at the very least are giving your ads a fighting chance to perform well and generate your desired result, whether that be leads, bookings or sales.
